OCVA Lions at the VPASC Health Fair 2011

OCVA Lions participated in the free Health Fair on Sept 18, 2011, hosted by the VPASC (Vietnamese Physician Association of Southern California) in Westminster, CA.

The OCVA Lions Club provided vision screenings from the 4L4 District Lions Sight & Hearing mobile unit with the help of a team of 2 optometrists and 2 optometrist assistants. They also brought a volunteer crew of 22 additional Lions, of which several are dentists and medical doctors in different health care fields.

On the morning of Sept 18, Lions Vanessa and Mike Pham drove the Lions Sight & Hearing mobile unit to the parking lot of the Westminster City Hall. At 10AM, the long lines of patients were already waiting. The Health Fair educated and examined approximately 500 patients and approximately 200 patients received also assisted patients with dental screening, osteoporosis screening, breast cancer screening, and blood pressure checking.

The Lions Vision Van was one of the most visited stations at the Health Fair. The vision screening team in the Lions Sight van, led by Lion Phuong Le, worked nonstop from the moment the fair opened until the last patient went home, without a lunch break.

OCVA Lions volunteers in their bright blue uniform were seen everywhere at the Health Fair, assisting from menial tasks to big tasks with great dedication. They have made a significant impact at the VPASC Health Fair 2011 and in the community by following the Lions motto “We Care, We Serve, We Accomplish”.
