American Family Housing (AFH), Midway City

The HBH Lions Board meeting of Nov 11, 2010 was held at the American Family Housing, 15161 Jackson St Midway City. Present at this board meeting were the Huntington Beach lions, the Westminster Community Lions, Bob Murphy - AFH’s General Manager, and Joyce Miller - AFH's Children's Coordinator.

American Family Housing (also known as Shelter for the Homeless) is a nonprofit organization that provides Emergency, Transitional and Permanent Affordable Housing. AFH has operated in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino counties for over 23 years, expanding their programs and properties each year to help more people.

AFH is more than just a shelter. They also offer compassion, counseling, education and other services necessary for homeless and low-income clients to become self-supporting members of society. Jim Miller is the founder and Executive Director of AFH.  AFH's goal for 2010 is to increase the number of families they help transition from homelessness into affordable housing. They're asking for our help and support to meet their challenges.

At the Networking Meeting on Nov 6, 2010, the American Family Housing has been approved as one of Lions' District Service Projects.

...  The bread which you do not use,
Is the bread of the hungry.
The garment hanging in your wardrobe ,
Is the garment of the one who is naked.
The shoes that you do not wear,
Are the shoes of one who is barefoot.
The money you keep locked away,
Is the money of the poor.
The acts of charity you do not perform,
Are so many injustices you commit
